Rechargeable Flashlight System Frequently Asked Questions Why is there a dark spot in the beam when light is adjusted to flood? The Mag Charger® Rechargable Flashlight System™ reflector is designed for the best spot possible. What you see in the flood position of the reflector is a redistribution of the light to the widest part of the reflector.
After I turn my Mag® flashlight on, it doesn't stay on continuously unless I bang on it, or hit it. What do I do, and where do I send it? It sounds like you are only getting intermittent electrical contact because your contacts need to be cleaned. Try this before you do anything else: Remove the tailcap and the batteries from your flashlight. Look inside the tailcap end of the barrel and you'll see that most of the inside of the barrel is the same color as the outside of the barrel -- black, or red, or blue, for example. That's because the inside of the barrel is anodized to help guard against corrosion. But part of the metal near the tailcap end of the barrel is shiny, bare metal. This is a point of electrical contact. Sometimes it can get covered with dirt or grit or corrosion, which can cause your flashlight to flicker on and off due to poor electrical conductivity. Cleaning these electrical contacts is simple: Just go over the shiny, silver rim of the barrel, the rim of the tailcap that contacts with the rim of the barrel when tightened, and the silver area inside the tailcap where the spring sits, with a piece of emery paper or steel wool. Now put a small amount of petroleum jelly or liquid silicone on the threads of the tailcap, making sure that the large end of the coil spring is snapped into the tailcap. When the flashlight is put back together, the small end of the spring will be pressing against the negative side of the battery. Put your batteries back in with their positive ends pointing forward, screw the tailcap firmly back into the barrel, and your "flickering flashlight" problem should be solved. If your flashlight still doesn't work after you have cleaned the contacts, call us at 1 800-283-5562 or email us back at this same address.
Can I touch the glass of the lamp with hands, and if so, will the oils cause lamp damage? You can touch the glass when it’s off/cool without fear of lamp damage. However, it is always good practice to wipe lamp with a soft cloth or tissue after handling.
How long can I leave the flashlight in the Charging Cradle (on charge) without using? Indefinitely … but beyond 30 days of non-use, no purpose is served. When not in use, good practice would dictate disconnecting the units power plug. Battery self-discharge would be less than 1% per day.

If dust occurs inside my reflector, how do I clean it without damage to the reflector? Use a camel hair brush lightly or blow with dry air. Use the same care that you would give a precision camera lens.
Will the lens break? Yes; however, due to the type of composition and seal, it is much stronger than a regular glass lens.

How do I get a fingerprint off my reflector? Use a camera lens cleaner and a lint-free cloth
If the small red light in the Charging Cradle does not light, how do I know whether it’s the flashlight or the Charging Cradle that’s at fault? With the Charging Cradle plugged in and the flashlight not in the Charging Cradle, place a coin, paper clip or metal object across the pins in the Charging Cradle. If the Charging Cradle is OK, the red light will go on. Otherwise, the fault is in the flashlight.
Are Mag flashlights waterproof? We consider our flashlights to be extremely water resistant but we don't advertise them to be waterproof.
How long can I expect my lamp (bulb) to last? 50 - 60 hours, not counting mechanical shock abuse. Lamps become more fragile toward end of lamp life.
